Philosophy: Music is more than just another subject children study in school. Music can transcend us to a different time and place in our lives. Music is more than just something you hear, it is a combination of sounds that can make us feel so many different emotions. There is nothing else on this planet like it. I believe that music is connected to our souls, and when we learn to express ourselves through music we connect so deeply with our true selves and the people around us. This is why studying music is so crucial in everyone’s life. When we are learning how to express ourselves through music, we are connecting with our souls in a completely different way. That first light bulb in a lesson is the start of a strong connection to the spirit, which leaves may us feeling, joyful, confident, and fearless. We can take this connection and use it in many other areas of our lives. This connection is strengthened by performing. When we perform music, I believe we are showing an audience a glimpse of our soul, which only strengthens the performer’s connection to their soul. As a teacher, it is my job to help students create that strong connection to their souls, by pushing students to think outside the box, and by exploring all the things that music can offer.
