Words to describe my teaching style
Lauren’s lessons always have a foundation based on each student’s musical journey. In whatever direction that musical journey unfolds, understanding the musical language is at the heart of her teaching philosophy. Chord progressions, arpeggiations, and scales are learned by every student at every ability level. Learning how to improvise and/or compose music is also introduced in lessons at different rates dependent on the individual student’s comfort level.
A typical lesson begins with fundamentals of the musical language. Sometimes this can consist of rhythmic identification, chord progressions, and/or scales. The next part of the lesson will consist of some improvisatory exercises to whatever extent the student is most comfortable. The last portion of the lesson will be focused on delving into the piece(s) the student is playing.
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys meditating.
