K&S History

When K&S opened its doors in May of 1990, its goal was to offer music lessons to the community in a more professional setting. Sue Krebsbach and Carol Sailer quickly grew the "Park on the River" studio in St. Paul Park, Minnesota to 23 teachers and over 350 students receiving instruction in piano, brass, woodwinds, strings, voice, guitar and percussion.

In September 1999, K&S moved into the studio they are currently reside in, the Woodbury Gateway Centre building in Woodbury, Minnesota.

In 2014, three teachers at K&S Conservatory collaborated to purchase Carol Sailer's shares to start a new chapter in the history of this esteemed business. Sadly, in 2016, Carol Carlson unexpectedly passed away. In June, the estate of Carol Carlson sold its shares to Sue Ruby.

In December of 2019, Mitch Grussing started purchasing some of Sue Krebsbach’s shares and officially joined the director team. The ownership of K&S continues under the direction of Sue Krebsbach, Sarah Mensen and Sue Ruby & Mitch Grussing.

Currently over 35 highly qualified teachers now offer a wide variety of musical instruction to over 500 students in the Twin Cities.

The mission of K&S hasn't change much since it was founded. Our mission is to be strong music activists in our community. At K&S, we foster an encouraging environment where our students thrive. K&S takes care of a lot of the business side of things, so our teachers get to focus on what they enjoy most, teaching! K&S is unique because the directors of the studio are also teachers at the studio, so they are invested in both sides of the business.

We are passionate about teaching music and that is something that you will notice as soon as you walk in the door.
