Setting her apart from other teachers, Jane does not believe in "right and wrong" language in the voice studio. Rather, she empowers students to develop a vocal toolbox that allows them to make informed, artistic choices in their singing. Jane's students are active participants in choosing their repertoire, which may range from classical, musical theatre, choral, jazz, folk, singer-songwriter, to pop, and more!

Jane collaborates with students to maximize learning, minimize injury, and fuel creative, artistic expression. A typical 55-minute lesson begins with 2-3 minutes of conversation, followed by 15-30 minutes of warmup/exercises and 15-30 minutes of work on the students' songs. Exact time division depends on student's skill level, priorities (such as upcoming auditions or performances), and vocal needs that day.

When she is not performing or teaching, Jane enjoys attending musicals, having meaningful conversations in coffee shops, and walking or running around a nice park.

Piano playing is at the forefront - with technique, musicality, how to practice - the skills necessary to play piano. However, this will always be balanced with note-reading skills, as well as aspects of music literacy, such as harmony and voice-leading, music history, etc. He tries to make these activities as fun as possible!

She uses evidence based vocal pedagogy that ties together voice research, her vocal expertise and her student’s goals to produce sustainable and authentic vocal technique. She is especially gifted in teaching contemporary singing techniques (Musical Theater, Singer/Songwriter, Rock, Pop), and has a sweet spot in her heart for all things choral music.

In a lesson with Melissa, you can expect lots of smiles, laughter and exploration. Lessons always begin with a recap of the previous week and a discussion of any goals/needs that the student is looking to achieve in their session that day. The student and Melissa then navigate the rest of the session together, weaving in technical exercises and songs of the student's choosing. Students will leave each week with an individualized game plan of what to practice before the next week.

In her spare time, Melissa enjoys taking and teaching yoga, seeing live music, and playing with her three ridiculously cute cats.

Chris spent 10 years cultivating a private lesson studio in Texas, working with middle school and high school students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area public schools. Over that time he honed his pedagogy, and was able to help many students earn positions in their school's top bands, earn seats in their All-Region and All-State bands, and excel at their Solo and Ensemble auditions. In addition, Chris has 9 years of college teaching experience, having taught at the University of North Texas, University of Northern Iowa, Winona State University, College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University, and the University of Minnesota.

A lesson with Chris may begin with fundamentals to make sure there is a solid foundation of tone, intonation, and relaxed hand positions; but the main goal of each lesson is to get to the music and discover the nuances of why we all gravitate towards music.

When the weather calls for it, Chris likes to take long walks and hikes with his girlfriend, Emily, and his dog, Duke.

Mary takes the time to determine what interests each student has and tailor their curriculum to their level of comfort. Above all, she aims to ensure that students are enjoying the process of learning to play and achieving goals that satisfy them.

Most lessons will begin with a scale/chord/arpeggio warmup as Mary believes that mastering the basics are essential to the enjoyment of playing any musical style. Students will have a current repertoire of 2-6 pieces from their method book, the Classical repertoire, and select pieces in the contemporary or pop styles. A music theory course will also be undertaken, if the student is willing. Of course, all of this might be changed up to explore something new, fun, or a personal interest of the student’s choosing.
