GABE is a piece I composed in memory of my former student who passed away unexpectedly on October 24, 2024 at the age of 25. He was a doctoral student in the department of computer science at the University of Chicago. Gabe took guitar lessons from me while he was in grade school and high school. I remember mostly how his enthusiasm and laughter always brightened my day. I always looked forward to seeing him because it was so pleasantly joyful and at times even humorous. Gabe was a good student and played the guitar quite well!
