Ghosts and Other Spooky Beings, vol. 2

“Much of my pandemic solitude was spent researching musical repertoire of historic female and marginalized composers. At first, I just combed through various online databases, dusty library bookshelves as well as copious amounts of garage sale sheet music. Digging into the Library of Congress’ archives I unearthed several previously unpublished musical gems. In April of 2020, the Etude Magazine Web Site published the complete collection of Etude magazine in digitized format. Internet Archive published a digitized version of An Index to Music Published in the Étude Magazine, 1883-1957 by Douglas E. Bomberger that allowed me to search by subject or composer. It did not take long to find a wide assortment of Halloween-based piano solos for my second volume of Ghosts (and Other Spooky Beings). Most of these composers are ‘unknown’ or at least unfamiliar. The repertoire is likely not found in any other book or collection. My desire is that from curiosity and even demand, more works by these composers will find their way into the hands of pianists young and old.” - Sue Ruby, Editor
